Look at me and listen!

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with doctors who have intimate relationships with their computers and laboratory results and none whatsoever with their patients.

I took my son (who was five at the time) for a routine physical. He was, and in fact still is, extremely slim, borderline skinny. The doctor barely registered our arrival before she started plotting a detailled growth chart. After about 10 minutes' intricate 'calculation', she declared my son to be obese and that I should cut out all snacks! The really worrying thing was that she was more convinced of the truth emanating from a wrongly-plotted graph than the living, breathing proof in front of her (had she bothered to lift her head).

I saw an Endocrinologist once who wanted give me a blood test for thyroid problems. I, quite reasonably I thought,  asked him if he was thinking along the lines of an over-active or an under-active thyroid. His worryingly unreassuring answer was that he wouldn't have an opinion on the matter until he read the test results.

I'm fortunate now (after many trials and many hissy fits) to have found a doctor who actually listens to what I'm saying; the man deserves a medal. At least, I think he listens...

  1. Hi I am looking to start a blog and would like to use the address www.realhealthyfood.blogspot.com as it matches my youtube and other social media, however you already use it. I noticed that you don't really post on that blog and wondered if it were at all possible for you to change the name of it so I may have the web address? Sorry if that was all a bit confusing!
